Used SUVs for Sale in Northwest Indiana

Used Terrain, Acadia and Enclave, and used RAV4, CR-V, Explorer and Equinox alongside them. We take trades from every brand, almost everything on the lot is certified, and the program we certify through is not limited to GM vehicles. A used Honda here can carry the same coverage as a used Buick.

Pick the Size First, Then the Badge

Most people arrive with a brand in mind and leave with a different one, because the thing that actually decides it is how many rows you need and what you are doing in February.

Which is convenient, because our used lot is not limited to Buick and GMC. Most of what arrives on trade wears somebody else's badge, and unlike most franchise dealerships we can certify it. A Ford store certifies Fords and sells everything else as plain used stock. We certify through CarBravo, General Motors' program, which is not restricted to GM vehicles, so a used RAV4 or CR-V here goes through the same inspection as a used Terrain.

Certified Means Something Specific

Multi-point inspection, every open safety recall completed before listing, a limited warranty, and a 10 day or 500 mile exchange if it turns out to be wrong for you. What certified covers →

A Carfax on Every Vehicle

Free, on everything we sell, certified or not. You should not have to ask for a history report or pay for one. One-owner vehicles →

Two Certification Tiers

The standard tier covers up to 10 model years and 100,000 miles. A second reaches 15 years and 150,000, which is well past where most programs stop and is why an older family SUV here can still carry coverage.

Financing Across Thirty Lenders

Past repossession, bankruptcy, thin file or no credit history. A family SUV is often the vehicle somebody needs most and can afford least easily. Credit financing →

How Many Rows, and How Much Winter

Compact, Two Rows

Terrain · Equinox · RAV4 · CR-V · Escape

The default for most households. Enough space for two adults, two children and the weekly shop, cheap enough to run for a daily commute, and small enough to park. All-wheel drive is worth having here.

Browse used SUVs →

Midsize, Two Rows

Envision · Edge · Murano · Blazer

More cargo space and a quieter ride without going to three rows. Often the sensible answer for a couple who tow a small trailer or drive long distances.

New Envision →

Three Rows

Acadia · Enclave · Traverse · Explorer · Pilot

Once there are three car seats or a regular carpool, this becomes non-negotiable. Check the third row in person: the difference between usable and technically present is large and does not show in a photograph.

New Acadia →

Full Size

Yukon · Tahoe · Suburban · Expedition

Body-on-frame, serious towing, and a third row adults can actually sit in. You pay for it in fuel and parking, so buy one because you need the capability rather than the presence.

New Yukon →

Under $20,000

Older, higher mileage, still covered

Where the extended certification tier earns its keep. An older SUV with real miles can still be inspected and warranty backed rather than sold as-is, which is not true at most lots at that price.

All-Wheel Drive, and What It Does Not Do

Worth being clear about, because it is oversold constantly and it matters more here than in most places.

Lake effect snow comes off Michigan and lands on Porter and LaPorte counties first. All-wheel drive helps you get moving on a snow covered road. It does very little to help you stop or turn. That is tires, and a set of proper winter tires on a front wheel drive SUV will out-perform all-season tires on an all-wheel drive one in the conditions that actually cause accidents around here.

If you can have both, have both. If you are choosing, and the vehicle is otherwise right, do not rule out a front wheel drive SUV over it. Ask us what is on the tires before you decide, and we will tell you honestly what they have left.

Check the Underbody

Road salt is the defining fact of a used vehicle in this region. Surface rust is normal. Flaking or perforated subframes and corroded brake lines are not. Get any used SUV on a lift, wherever you buy it.

Sit in the Third Row

Actually sit in it, and put a car seat in it if that is the plan. Third rows vary enormously between models that look similar on paper.

Read the Service History

As carefully as the accident section. An SUV with no records for eighty thousand miles is its own kind of warning, even with a clean Carfax.

Check Recalls Yourself

Run the VIN at nhtsa.gov regardless of who is selling it. On a certified vehicle here recalls are completed before listing, but never take that on trust from anybody.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is every vehicle in your online inventory CarBravo certified?
Our online inventory shows vehicles across the Currie Motors group rather than only the ones standing here, and CarBravo applies to what is in stock on our lot. Call (219) 246-4505 and ask about a specific vehicle and we will tell you where it is and how it is certified.
Where can I buy a used SUV in Northwest Indiana?
Currie Motors Buick GMC is at 1551 W. US Highway 30 in Valparaiso, on US-30 which crosses the width of Northwest Indiana. Our used SUV inventory covers most makes rather than GM alone, and almost all of it is certified. Browse used inventory and call (219) 246-4505 to confirm what is physically on the ground before traveling.
Can a used Toyota or Honda SUV be certified at a GMC dealership?
At most dealerships, no. Manufacturer certified programs are normally limited to the manufacturer's own brand, so a used RAV4 on a GMC lot would be sold as plain used stock. We certify through CarBravo, General Motors' certified used vehicle program, which is not limited to GM vehicles. A used RAV4, CR-V, Explorer or Pilot taken in on trade here can carry the same multi-point inspection, completed recalls, limited warranty and 10 day exchange as a used Terrain. See what certification covers.
Do I need all-wheel drive in Northwest Indiana?
It helps, and it is worth having, but it is oversold. All-wheel drive helps you get moving on a snow covered road. It does very little to help you stop or turn, and that is what causes most winter accidents. Tires matter more: proper winter tires on a front wheel drive SUV will out-perform all-season tires on an all-wheel drive one in the conditions that actually catch people out. Have both if you can. If you are choosing between a front wheel drive SUV that is otherwise right and an all-wheel drive one that is not, do not let the badge decide it.
How many rows do I actually need?
Two rows covers most households: a compact like a Terrain, Equinox, RAV4 or CR-V handles two adults, two children and a weekly shop. Three rows become non-negotiable once there is a third car seat or a regular carpool, and the models vary enormously in how usable that third row is. Sit in it, and put a car seat in it if that is the plan, because the difference between usable and technically present does not show in a photograph.
Do you provide a Carfax report?
Yes, free, on every vehicle we sell, certified or not. You should not have to ask for a vehicle history report or pay for one, and a seller reluctant to produce one is telling you something. Read the service history as closely as the accident section: an SUV with no records for eighty thousand miles is its own kind of warning. We also keep a list of one-owner vehicles, which tend to come with better records.
What should I check on a used SUV in this region?
The underbody, before anything else. Road salt is the defining problem for vehicles here, and surface rust is normal while flaking or perforated subframes and corroded brake lines are not. Get it on a lift. Beyond that, sit in the third row if it has one, read the service history as carefully as the accident history, and run the VIN at nhtsa.gov for open recalls regardless of who is selling it.
Do you have used SUVs under $20,000?
Usually, though stock varies. This is where the extended certification tier matters: it reaches vehicles up to 15 model years and 150,000 miles, well past where most certified programs stop, so an older SUV at that price can still be inspected and warranty backed rather than sold as-is. See the under $20,000 selection and call to check what is on the lot.
Can I finance a used SUV with damaged credit?
We submit applications to more than thirty banks and lenders, a number of which specialize in credit challenges, covering past repossession, discharged bankruptcy, collections and thin credit files. Down payment requirements vary genuinely, from nothing down to around $500 or more. No approval is guaranteed and nobody honest would promise one before seeing your file. See our credit financing page.
